User32.dll Relocated in Memory because HHCTRL Occupied the Address

WXP Pro SP2 with all Updates
I just rebooted and was greeted by the Window:
RTHDCPL.EXE - ILLEGAL SYSTEM DLL RELOCATION
The System DLL User32.dll was relocated in memory.
The application will not run properly.
The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\Windows System 32 HHCTRL.OCX
occupie an address range reserved for Windows System Dlls.
The Vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL. OK Button

The RTHDCPL.EXE means it's my Realtek Sound off my Asus MB and CPL means
Control Panel I think. What is HHCTRL.OCX ... I know I should have Googled
this prior to posting to learn all I could, but seeing USER32.DLL scared me
and now I'm fearful of doing further harm and just may not be able to reboot
into Windows again. I'm in Windows now and hopefully I can stay until some
kind MVP comes up with a solution as I haven't a clue what to do. I've been
up all night working so pls make the solution very detailed so I can follow
without any guess work on my part.
I was working in QuickBooks while a Windows Update was installing and asked
me to Reboot. I closed QB and rebooted immediately. I wasn't using Videos
nor MP3s just the normal minimal sounds that play when arriving into Windows.

Thx for any suggestions. I've never seen, heard nor read of this happening
before.

You might want to download and run the hotfix available from
Microsoft.

The Realtek HD Audio Control Panel may not start, and you
receive an error message when you start the computer: "Illegal
System DLL Relocation"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448/

Good luck

Well isn't THAT a Dandy! So many occurrences of the same problem after
installing a W Update this morning.

Note the post above mine has a MS KB nbr 935448 to solve the problem posted
by Nepaatsfan. Whatta consideration person he/she is ... fantastic.

Next I'm going to take my name off the Automatic Update list so I don't
experience something like this again. I'll install them when they're a week
old and all the kiquirks have been removed.
Thx Udat for bringing the scope of this error to my attn.

Nepatsfan, I just installed the KB 'fix' and Rebooted. Problem SOLVED
thanks to your thoughtfulness. Well, MS too but didn't they caused the
problem in the first place! I wonder why they didn't pull that Update vs
continuing to send it around the World for Novices like me to contend with.

I didn't think of checking the KB - I was in such a hurry to get my problem
posted in case my computer crashed.

You sure came through for all of us this morning! Thanks so much!

Nepatsfan,

Thanks for the reference to the hotfix. It has solved the problem.
It is really frustrating that the security update caused such a problem....

I too downloaded the automatic updates and also received the same error.
Typical of me though I blamed the kids for downloading something they
shouldn't! Never mind, I'm sure they'll forgive me! I found the website by
reading Nepatsfans' reply http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448/ which seems
to have solved this problem. Well done Nepatsfan!
