"Illegal System DLL Relocation" message -- What should I do about

G

Guest

I got this message for the first time after downloading a windows update. I
am a real newbie and have no clue. Everything seem to be working OK anyway.
Any suggestions?

Frankly, I can't decide if this means that the windows update will not work,
or if whatever was in its place will not work.
Thanks so much for any insight into this message.

--RTHDCPL.EXE - Illegal System DLL Relocation
The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application
will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL
C:\WINDOWS\system32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an address range reserved for Windows
system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL.

Is it hard to do a search for an answer, instead of asking? This has been
ask many times before! Use your re: Illegal system dll relocation, and
search.

You might want to download and run the hotfix available from
Microsoft.

The Realtek HD Audio Control Panel may not start, and you
receive an error message when you start the computer: "Illegal
System DLL Relocation"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448/

Good luck

Thanks very much Nepatsfan! That fix worked. I know I am an idiot, but
didn't really need to be reminded (thanks anyway Robin!)
