User1 and User2 in Windows XP

Hello.

I have the following scenario and I don't why is this happening.
I searched the internet but as of today I can't find any documentation.
Please help.

I have a fax driver that launches IE when TEST PAGE is done.
I installed the driver on User1 that has Administrator privilege.
Then I restart and login using User1 that has Administrator privilege also.
When I execute test page, IE is not launched.
But when I logon to User1 again, when I execute test page, IE is launched.

The IE settings are the same for both users.

Is this a specs on Windows XP Pro? (SP2)

Does anybody know any documents/links referring to the specs of XP about this?
Or if not in the specs, why is this happening?

Thanks in advance.

WinXp sets up different files and folders for different users.
You would notice in documents and settings folder that there are two or three users there.
WinXp also sets up files specific for these users in this folder and when it loads a certain user is also loads these settings specific to that user.

So whatever is applicable for user 1 is not necessarily applicable for user 2.

Thank you Mr. Gradwell.

It is indeed true that what is applicable for User1 is not applicable for
User2. However, when both User1 and User2 has Administrative privilige, the
software installed for either user should be available for both of them.
On the other hand, there is a slim possibility that it will not work.

Could you please give me a link on where I can find XP specs regarding this
matter?

TIA

Create a new user with admin privileges. Will it work for that account?
If not try uninstalling then reinstalling in the new account. Will it
work in the old one?

IF the software was configured such that only the one user may access it
then that is an issue to take up with the software vendor. It is not an
operating system specification as to what limits 3rd party software may
impose for it's use. So you will need to verify this "standard" with the
software makers that you are having concerns about.

Thanks Rock.

Yes. The other user with Admin privilige launches IE when Test Print is
performed. But in other user with Admin privilige also do not launch IE.
I am not sure if this is XP's specs.

Any documents/links please.

TIA.

Thanks Bob.

The problem is, the software is not configured to perform like this.
I am really cornered here.
Really appreciate any other insights you may give.

TIA.

Hi Ken,

Where are these drivers stored via the registry (which hive)? In the
meantime, try loading the drivers in question while in the profile in
question.

If I had to make a guess based on what you have said so far, you have
"misconfigured" this "fax driver". Uninstall it and then reinstall it.
If you want multiple users to have access to it you may have to install
it for each user. The IE starting may be the fax drivers attempt to
connect you to some kind of web based help or support. All of this is
supposition as it is not Windows XP doing this but the software you
installed and what installation procedure it uses. The readme file, Help
or any instructions relating installation and use for said software may
prove invaluable at this point.

Thank Kelly,

The driver is store in the registry.
In the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print

some data of the driver is also store in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

The driver in the profile is being loaded but still IE is not launched.

Is there something as User Management specs regarding this?
Do you have any information/links/docs?

TIA.

Thanks Kelly,

The driver stored in the registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print

Other data are also stored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

The driver is being loaded in the both profile. They have the same registry
setup based on the driver information but in one profile, IE is launched but
in the other problem (same privilige), IE is not launched.

Is there something like a specs of XP about this?
Any docs/links?

TIA

Look to see what the "fax" pages are supposed to be viewed in. If the
fax software is generating tif files and that profile is set to use IE
to view tif files the IE will be started. It is not the XP specs but the
preferences that the user has set.

Thanks Bob,

The fax driver is generation TIF file but the IE is not set to view the file.
The fax driver connects to the machine (FAX) and after a connection is
established the IE will launch a login page which the page is stored in the
machine itself.

What I can't really undestand is, when Logging in as User1, IE is launched.
When logging in as User2, IE is not launched. But User1 and User2 are
completely the same including privileges.

Well, I think there are other reasons why is this happening but as of now I
am thinking if this is a specs.

Thank you everybody for all the information.
If you have any other info/tips please let me know.

TIA.

I'm sure if you keep adding all the little bits to the thread about how
the software starts things and what permissions are used, eventually you
will figure out what is missing in the User2 settings that are present
in User1 or vs versa. Is the "User2" present on the remote machine and
"User1" is not?

G

Guest

Thanks again Bob.

User1 and User2 are both present in the local machine.
User1 and User2 are logged in both through local machine.

TIA.
