Can someone tell me if one user installs a program such
as Microsoft office but does not put it in a share file,
can another user, access the program without going to the
first users log in to find it and put it in a share file.

Share file? Not sure what you mean. Do you mean, if user A installs Office,
can user B run it? If so, yes - it should show userB the shortcuts in the
start menu.

Hi John,

I'm not sure what you are trying ot6 do here. Generally, program folders are
shared by all users, though limited users may have trouble running programs
that have files in the system folder. There are ways around that. How a
program installs can vary greatly, some will install for all users, others
will need to be reinstalled under each user for which you wish to have
access. This is entirely dependent on the software installer.

If you wish to limit access to a program, you can set permissions on the
folder housing the program. If you wish to have all users access the
program, then set the shortcut in the allusers folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs

Another method of controlling access is this utility from MVP Doug Knox:

Files created with your programs can be housed under the users "My
Documents", which can be private to each user, or shared in the "Shared
Documents folder, which is accessible by all.
