user password for remote access only

Hi,

I would like to know if there is any way to have a user password set only
for remote desktop connection. I am using Windows XP Professional.

If it isn't possible, then is it possible to have two different passwords
for one single user - one for the physical logon and one for remote logon
over internet?

I am asking this because three users are sharing this computer without a
password and I would like to keep it that way. For the remote connection it
is of course necessary to use a password for security reasons...

Presuming all three users are logging on using the same account ID and
password you might use "Tweak UI" (the XP Power Toy) to configure automatic
login for that account when your PC starts.

The password would still be used for Remote Desktop access. Make sure you
use a strong password.

An alternative might be to create a special password protected account that
is only used to login to the PC with Remote Desktop.

Thanks!

That did the trick :)

Is there any way to set autologon when I disconnect my remote connection?
Because when I finish my remote session, no user is logged on to my computer
- or is the only way to do this by finishing your session with a reboot?

Have you tried logging off instead of disconnecting from the Remote Desktop
session when your finished? Personally I have not tested that so the best I
can say is to just try it...

Yes, I have tried that. The thing is, when you connect remotely, all the
applications remain open - and they remain open even when you disconnect. But
on the computer you have the welcome screen with the user icon and text
"logged on" written under it... However, when you click the user (it is the
only user) it requires you to write the password.
If I log off, then all the open applications close and you still need to log
on manually.

Any other ideas?

*If* the local session was active when you remoted into it - you can push it
back to the console (local screen) with a command:

On the REMOTE system:

Start button --> Run -->
tscon 0 /dest:console
OK

And that will push the unlocked screen back to the local console. Again -
only works (and if you had it set to autologon with no screensaver lock -
this should always work as long as everyone does it) if the machine was
already logged in and visible from the local console.

You could even create a batch script to run --> it will disconnect you from
the session when you do that.

That's good enough for me, since I am the only person connecting to this
machine remotely.

Thanks for your help guys.
