After using Microsoft Mail for two months on a new computer, it began asking
me today for a user name and password - that I do not have.

To access your Email?
You have to have them.
Contact your ISP for user ID and password.
User ID is normally the first part of your Email address, the part
before the "@".
The password is usually selected by you when you set up your account
with your ISP.

Excuse me, but how can you not have the username and password
to your own email account? Who set the account up in the first place?

You will have to call your mail provider for that information.
Incidentally, the program is named Windows Mail, not Microsoft Mail.
