Windows mail

I cannot send or rec messages on windows mail. I am getting a pop up window
that I have neer gotten before asking for my user name and password. I do not
recall ever setting up a user name or password. I have been using the new
computer for several months and this has never surfaced until today.

It isn't possible to have a mail account without a username and password.
Who is your provider (the part after the @ symbol)? Give them a call.

My provider is comcast, and has been for several years. The question is why
would this window appear now?

One possibility is that Comcast is having problems.

Either that, or your antivirus has corrupted the account.
