Windows Security going whacky

I use Windows mail for my e-mail and news group access.

When I access my comcast e-mail (where all the info is correctly entered and
stored in the account setup) I have no problem.

When I try to access my newsgroup (where all my info is correctly entered
and stored in the account setup) a Windows Security window pops up, displays
my Vista PC administrator symbol and asks me for a user name and password to
access the newsgroup account.

I enter the correct info and Windows Security screen will not accept it. I
had never ever been asked for a user name and password by a Windows Security
Pop Up before and it doesn't ask me for that info on my e-mail.

What is going on?

No idea.

Never seen or read of that behaviour previously.

What AV Application are you using, is it set to scan email?

I'm having the same problem. My e-mail was fine this morning and then it
started asking for ID and password. It won't let me in either.

Thats's a typical reaction for Windows Mail after it has failed to be able
to
log in to the server once, possibly because the server was not running then,
and has therefore forgotten the password, although it still remembers the
dots showing the length of the password.

To fix this until the next time the server is unable to let you log in,
click
on Tools, then Accounts, then whichever account is affected, then
Server. Leave the checkmark before Remember password alone,
but click at the end of the dots for the password, then backspace to
erase them, then type the password. Click on Apply, then OK, then
Close.

Which newsgroup server? I thought Comcast discontinued news server access.
