User Login - Users not appearing WIN XPH

I have a machine with Windows XP Home, and the welcome
screen appears, wit NO users to click on, so I can't log
on to Windows. The log off button with the users name
still appears at the bottom of the screen. The same
happens in Safe mode. I have reied a rebuild on the
machine but it hasn't changed anything.
 
You should be able to use the older login dialogue, by pressing
alt-cntrl-del-del when there is no "switched out" account.
Try downloading the TweakUI tool that is part of the PowerToys.
This lets you set what accounts do and do not appear on the
Welcome screen.

Were you by chance doing things in the interface run using
control userpasswords2
??
If so, it is possible in that interface to alter accounts so that
they are no longer limited accounts, but not administrative
either. When that happens it is possible to see things such
as the one you have mentioned.
