USER.DAT - Default User profile..........

Hi,

We have recently recovered from a server crash (Server 2000 with TS) and all
appeared well until we needed to add another user. When added the new users
profile was huge and refused to load. When investigation more closely we
discovered that thier ntuser.dat file was almost 40MB. We refered back to the
ntuser.dat in the default user profile and this was the same size also. So
there is the problem. Other users (including admins) ntuser.dat are all sub
2MB. What can I do? Can I just delete the default user.dat ?

The system has 40 users. The base loaded reg size is about 60MB and grows to
about 90MB with all users logged on (Max Size 120).

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You can try a couple of things:

You can copy an existing (small) user profile to the Default User
profile. Once you have a smaller Default user profile, create a
new test account and log on to the server. This test account
should get a copy of the new Default User profile. Use the test
account to customize it's profile as you want your new users to
get it, log off, and copy the test user's profile once more over
the Default User profile.

If the above doesn't work, for some reason or another (but it
should!), then you could try this tool on one of the huge profiles
(create a test account for this as well):

320186 - HOW TO: Clean Profiles By Using the Cprofile Command in
Terminal Services

Disclaimer: I have never used the above cprofile command, and I'm
not sure exactly what/how it cleans the profile.

Vera,

Thanks you for all of your assistance, it worked a treat. Compated
ntuser.dat from almost 40MB to under 1MB. No all users are happy.

Thanks
