User Accounts

Any advice would be appreciated. Not sure if this is the correct group
though ?

I'm considering doing a clean install of my XP Home and have read about the
advantages of using a Limited User Account ( as opposed to the Admin
account ) for general day to day operation.
I understand Vista has includes security features that ask for Admin rights
when needed.

As limited user accounts don't permit installation or system changes , I'm
wondering about things like updates to Windows and Internet Security
programs while running the Limited User Account.
Will you still receive updates and / or notification and then have to switch
to the Admin account to apply them ?

Also , as I have 2 computers that share files , is this still possible using
a Limited Account ?

What I'm trying to ascertain is if the benefits of a Limited account ( ie
increased security ) outweigh the possible ' inconveniences " ?

TIA !!

You would enjoy much greater security running as a Limited, and there would
always be the opportunity to use a shortcut set to execute things with the
"RUNAS" function, using the admin ID/pass known to you.

Basically, while Limited Accounts work acceptably on Linux, on Windows I
reckon they would drive you to drink. You'll spend half your time changing
user, and the other half repeating settings that were made as Admin, and
which then have to be re-applied as the limited user.

Yes, you'd have to use an account with administrative privileges to
install most of the updates.

Yes, that's not a problem as long as the permissions are correctly
configured. Bear in mind, though, that a Limited account cannot create
new shares.
