USB to IDE fails to install

Hello, and thanks in advance for any appreciated help. I realize that this
is an XP forum, but hope someone here knows W2000.
I installed a new hard drive, with the original W2K, with SP4, and have a US
2.0 IDE Adapter trying to hook up the old drive to transfer data (Seems about
to
crash).
The new hardware installation was run to completion, the system re-booted,
but the final installation failed because the driver failed. If anyone
knows what I should do next, pleeeease advise. It came with a small disc
that has driver for W98 only, and can not find the manufacturer's name. My
question is, is there any place to download a generic driver for these
adapters? Thanks again. EmyKay

Have you tried going to the Windows Update site for drivers. With the hard
disk attached, your devive manager might tell the windows site you need that
driver, and offer you one.
start/all programs/windows update

If you rightclick the old driver for win98, the Properties of the file might
give you the name of the maker.

Thank-you both very much. At least now I have some place to start. And
thanks for the lightning quick response! NICE>

Check out if the disk is jumpered as 'Master', these
adaptors only works this way.

I've seen a few drives (WD's) where jumpering as master didn't work - the
drive had to have *no* jumpers.

So, proper jumper setting may vary from drive to drive, and experimentation
may be needed.
