USB storage device not in explorer

Hi,

I've been looking for a long time to solve this problem that has started in
march 2008.

Problem:
when i connect an USB stick it is regonized and it's getting a letter.
Then when I want to use the stick, it is not possible, because the stick is
not shown in the explorer.
But it is shown in "portable media devices" (configuration screen) and it
has a device letter.(this is normal) But from this place you can't use any
folder on the stick. To do that, I must make a copy and paste it on the
harddisc to have this possibility. But thats not the way it should work.
I have 3 USB stick that all works fine on my other 3 computer with the same
OS, so the sticks are not the problem.

I tried everything i could find on internet, but till today nothing solved
this problem.
I hop somebody in here has the knowledge to help me.

things I have already tried:
1- changing the drive letter
2- removed the drivers
3- cleared the Upper- LowerFilters in the register (Microsoft article 925196)
4- when i read the logfile sometimes there are several messages:
a the changeable storage service has been sent to a starting element (evt.
ID 7035)
b the changeable storage service has the status "in proces" (evt. ID 7036)
c RSM has stopped (evt. ID 98)
5- in the section "services" in computer management stopped en restarted the
service "changeable storage"(translation from Dutch, sorry don't know the
right word)
and much other little things more.

If anyone knows what to do, I hope you'll give me some help!

thanks in advance!

Cees

This is a long shot but might be your problem. Go to your control
panel -> Add/Remove programs and see if you have a program installed
called "Adobe Elements" (or something close to that). A couple of
years ago, an introductary version of that program would piggy-back
load with the free Adobe Reader if you weren't paying attention when
downloading the Reader. This program will cause symptoms like you
describe if it was installed. If this is your case, simply un-install
it and things should improve.

Hi John,

Thanks for the answer. I found a program from Adobe with a name like
"fotojump" so I removed it but..no result.
In meantime I found some new behaviour of my meanmachine: when I put in de
USB stick and then click on start/ signout user and sign in as the same user,
the stick is in the explorer! Then it works as normal. You take it out and
stick it back, no problem. Until I shut down the computer, the whole mess is
back again.
But for the time beein it's work around, but it's still frustrating me that
I can't find out what the problem is.

Anyway, thanks for your reaction and thinking for me.
