USB Scanner driver problem

H

HoJo

I have had no luck getting Win XP (Service Pack 1) to
recognize my Plustek OptikPro U12B scanner. I downloaded
a new XP driver from Plustek and installed them. But they
didn't give me a USB option (only LPT1 and COMx) for the
port. Having installed them, I get a "Cannot find..."
error upon trying to use my scanner software. So, I'd
like to get rid of the drivers, as my first step in
solving the problem.

The drivers appear in the Device Manager (accessed
through My Computer) but no devices appear in the Control
Panel - Scanners and cameras. So I have tried to
uninstall the item in the Device Manager but get the
message "Failed to uninstall the device. The device may
be required to boot the computer." That is absurd of
course. But I seem to be stuck. Can anyone help me?

Have you tried the directions at Plustek for removing this device? Looks
like you might have had the scanner plugged in before you installed Plusteks
software which often causes this problem. I think you have to use Plusteks
uninstall utility to get rid of the device, unplug the scanner from the USB
port, then reinstall the software, and once the install program requests a
reboot plug the device into the USB port and it should be installed
automatically.

Try following the support directions from Plustek:

You might want to install the lastest driver for your scanner instead of the
cd that came with it:
