I am having problems with my usb plustek scanner photo
820. I have 5 listed now in device manager from trying
to reinstall it, and everytime I try to delete them, it
says "failed to uninstall the device. The device may be
required to boot up the computer". Please help.

Try this (not sure if you are using a WIA driver or a TWAIN driver, so...):
1. Disconnect the scanenr form your computer.
2. Reboot
3. If you've installed the software and driver for the device already, lets
see if there is an un-install for the device - check in "All Programs" and
see if your device is listed there. If so, see what's in that to see if
there is an un-install there. If there is - run the un-install program.
3. Goto the Device Manager (rt. click on My Computer and choose Properties,
then select the Hardware tab) and remove any instances of the scanner frmo
here (should be listed under Imaging devices)
4. Open My Computer and select then delete any instances of the scanner
5. Next, lets delete the TWAIN DS file. From Explorer goto your
Windows\TWAIN_32 directory. Do you see something like a Plustek file name or
PLustek make & model name, etc. like for instance "plustek320.ds"? Go ahead
and delete it.
6. One last place to check is the registry. If you feel comfoartable going
here, start the registry editor (from the RUN dialog type "regedit" and
press ENTER) and search on "plustek". Delete all entries that match.

If you've been able to complete all of these steps, you should be ready to
install the device. I highly recommend you read the instructions that came
with the scanner. (Some scanenrs want you to install the software first
before plugging in the scanner and if you don't - this can get really
screwed up!)

good luck!
