USB printer installation; Handle is invalid

I am trying to re-install an HP 750 all in one
printer/scaner/fax. It was installed and working, but
after some critical OS updates, stopped working.
I uninstalled the printer and the HP printer support
software, then reconnected the printer and allowed the
hardware to be "found." The installation wizard seems to
be successful installing the printer driver, but
terminates unsucessfully with the message that "an error
occurred during he installation of the HP psc 700 series
printer: The handle is invalid."
The Device Manager reports everything connected and
working, but actually printing to the printer fails,
irrespective of how a job is sent to the printer. I can't
find any help on MS Knowledge Base.. Does anyone have a
suggestion to make this printer work again?

Problem solved by plugging into computer's USB port,
instead of one on the USB hub I was using.
