Hello,
I have been having an issue with 3 of my USB ports not working. I am not a
very computer tech person... :( Here is the issue..
When I plug my removable flashdrives, MP3 players you name it...the computer
doesnt find it.. My son has tried to download his music and it wont find the
player..I have tried refreshing devices...restore points.. nothing... it used
to work just fine, I was able to pull of my pictures from my camera.. but now
nothing. I tried BIG FIX... the only thing that happened there was I got 3
different people and the same problem...then I developed other issues after I
allowed them into my computer...can anyone help me? I really cant afford to
dump my computer...everyone keeps saying that my drivers are messed up.? I
have tried to update them...nothing....

If this is a desktop computer and these are front-panel ports, then
there is a cable inside the case that connects the front panel ports
to the motherboard. This cable might have become disconnected. Open
the case and check the cabling.

This implies that you have more than 3 ports and the others work?
Situation under which the ports failed?
Desktop? Laptop? make/model?
Do the lights flash on the usb device. Many memory sticks have lights
that come on when you plug 'em in.
I use a USB powered keyboard led to test for power at the port.
You can look for 5V with a multimeter, but be very careful not
to short anything.
Some systems have overload protection that does not automatically reset.
Assume you've powered off the system? Reboot may not be enough.
Stress of plugging in can fracture solder connections.
Sometimes stuff just breaks.
Try booting from a linux live CD that's known to support usb.

USB on the front and I think 2 in back. Thank you and I will check the cable,
or have someone else check the cable.. I dont want to mess it up. I will let
you know the outcome thank you. No one told me to check inside cables.

I dont know, they were working and then just stopped.

Which ones - the ones on the front of the cabinet or at the rear - oh and
incidentally have you tried to plug in the devices and then reboot - might be
worth it, Window will recognise the items and set them up as new.

Given that *all* your ports do not work and only one is a front panel
port, it is highly unlikely that this is your problem. (Rear panel
ports don't usually have cables).

The downloading music may be a clue. In their zeal to prevent you from
enjoying your music, the copy protection police sometimes do things that
mess up your system.
When you restored, did you fdisk and reformat your hard drive?
Depending on which method you used to backup/restore, that may not clean
up your boot sector or parttion table or leave bad stuff still on the
hard drive. I'm grabbing at straws here cause that seems to be all that's
left to grab.
