I installed a rca mp3 player mod. # m4002 opal, along with the software. this
unit is compactable with windows xp which i have installed in my dell
computer. when i connect the device to any of the usb ports i get a message
that (one of the devices connected to this computer has malfunctioned and
windows does not recognize it. ) i've removed all other devices from the
ports, this mp3 does work in my office computer that operates off of windows
2000 pro. i went on to the rca web site and downloaded the firmware for this
device and it worked for me only (1) time, i was able to download the music i
wanted but now i can not get back in. can anyone help with this problem.

Try this with the MP3 player plugged in.

Right Click on My Computer and select Manage
Expand the System Tools tab if needed
Select Device Manager

Look for any object with a yellow circle/black exclamation mark

If you see one for the MP3 player, right click, select properties, go to the
driver tab, then click uninstall.

Then, unplug and reconnect the MP3 player and reinstall.

Let me know if this works

Tried it - didn't work.

I'm having the same problem with the same player which we just bought
for my daughter. As far as I can see, there are no drivers for this
device and I can't figure out where to find one. There are no yellow
circle/black exclamation marks under my device manager but there is an
"unknown device" and when I try to install driver for it, there aren't
any to be found. I am also running Windows XP Home and I also have no
problem when I plug it into my work computer (running Windows XP
professional).

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
