USB port error-Compaq Laptop

S

Hello everyone,
The specs are: Compaq-V500A Presario-WinXp Home Edition
I this error displayed everytime I boot up...

Error displayed- 0701:usb overcurrent on hc/port-bus:00hde:1dhfun:01h/port:00h

I have found thru research, that this refers to the actual physical usb
port being damaged. I opened up the laptop and found no physical evidence.
(all usb ports work) But I still see the message error during bootup.

I have gone into bios to look at it but is not listed anywhere in bios... I
have updated the bios thru flashing.

Anyone have any ideas?

Probably not the USB hub itself but the connection to it or the basic
hard-ware

Or that too much current is being drawn, either through a short or an
attempt to draw more power than the port can supply.

Unplug all USB devices.

Shut down, unplug the AC adapter from the laptop, remove the battery. Now,
press and hold the power switch for one minute. This is the "secret
handshake" to clear the BIOS, and can force all these devices to be
re-initialised. Put the battery back in, plug the AC back in, and
restart.

You might not.

This means that the problem isn't related to any OS, it's a hardware issue.
If these suggestions don't work, you may have to contact HP for service (and
your warranty may now be void), which can be expensive - they may need to
replace the board. At that point, your options include igoring the error
or replacing the system.
