Redirect sw serial port to USB port

I have an old application that recognize only the serial ports COMx.
I have a new PC laptop without hardware serial port but he knows the COMx
ports.
I have a peripheral which has only a USB port.
So is it possible to "redirect" the COMx to the USB physical port? by a
windows command? with a specific piece of software?
