You know the little dee-dum, dum-dee sound that the system makes when
plugging or unplugging a USB device? Well, just sat here now and my system
is doing this about 5 times a minute, then it'll go quiet for maybe 5 or 10
minutes, and then it may do it again (or it may not) - but I'm not plugging
or unplugging any USB devices at all. In other words, this is completely
random and for no reason whatsoever.

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers,

John

Doh! Should have said:

XP Pro SP2, all the latest updates, 1GB RAM, Athlon 64 3200+, 250GB SATA II
HDD.

Unplug all your USB devices such as Printers, MP3 players, cameras, etc.
Reboot your PC and see if the sounds have stopped. Then you can reconnect
them one at a time. You may find the culprit that way. Another way is, go
to:
Start>Run>type DEVMGMT.MSC and press OK. Now check the listing for
any yellow exclamation(!) or question(?) marks which would indicate there
is a problem with one of the USB devices.

Thanks Byte. Before I had a chance to follow your suggestions, it stopped of
it's own accord :o)
