USB MP3 player problem

Got a USB MP3 player...

Plug it in seems to find it OK and install software. Message comes up
that device is working OK.

Trouble is when I try to open My Computer to look for the drive its not

there and also My Computer hangs. When I remove the device it unhangs.

Works first time in another PC.

Tried different USB ports. Tried deleting all USB hubs and restarting.

Any ideas ?

One thing I noticed is that my MB BIOS is out of date. Would that make
a difference?

Just out of curiosity, are you running SP2?.

Had the same problem with a digital camera. all works perfectly after removing
SP2.

Yep. Running SP2.

So did you have the exact same symptoms. i.e. my computer hanging until
you remove device?

Might try that but it'd be a bit of blow to have to remove SP2
permanently. My work laptop is OK and thats at SP2.

Depends what you call 'hang'. It didn't completely stop the computer but it
would take about 3 minutes to get a list of pictures from the camera & if you
tried to transfer a picture it would sit there for about 5 minutes & then give
up. All during this time the file manager was frozen but other windows worked
fine. Without SP2 everything happens in a blink of an eye.
