USB mouse wireless problem

Hello Forum,
I'm using a gateway PC pentium III, running under WinXP SP2.
The pc have only 5 USB ports, 3 in the rear and 2 in the front for USB
mouse and USB keyboard.
No any PS2 connectors.

Now, I bought a LABTEC wireless desktop (keyboard and mouse) but was
not USB, so I connected it through a PS2 to USB adaptor. The keybaord
and the mouse WORKED but erraticaly.

So I bought a MICROSOFT WIRELESS DESKTOP 700.
The keyboard works fine, but the mouse is dead.

In other PC, the set works fine.

I also removed all the files and registry keys of the old LABTEC set,
but still nothing.

I remember that ONLY once, the mouse responded when WinXP was starting
up for a few seconds and since then, nothing...

Please help!!!
Thanks
Claudio
