I have Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 that has USB connection.
I want to connect it to KVM which has only PS2.
I tried to use a USB to PS2 adapter but the keyboard is not recognized.
The mouse works find but not the keyboard.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance.

The 4000 keyboard is USB only and will not play ball with any adapter, even
a keyboard USB to PS/2 adapter which is a mauve color.

Generally, Microsoft keyboards which have a USB connector will be supplied
with a PS/2 adapter if they work together. The Ergonomic 4000 is NOT
supplied with an adapter..

you might considered
purchasing a cheap
$5 keyboard with ps2
adaptability to have
as a back up,

like for entering the
bios.

This is a purely hardward related question having nothing to do with
the OS. Please ask in a hardware forum.

Ignore our resident ****wit.

Your question is entirely welcome in a *hardware* forum, which this is.

Those cheap USB to PS2 adaptors do not convert the signal from one standard
to the other. They merely permit a keyboard which speaks both USB and PS2
to connect to either interface. If the keyboard does not speak PS2 then the
adaptor won't work. What you require is a USB to PS2 adaptor that includes
some electronics to perform the translation.

As an aside: it is interesting to note that new PCs are starting to be
provided with PS2 ports again for their keyboard and mouse. I have heard
reports of numerous problems with USB keyboards though have had no issues
myself. My company are now actually specifying PS2 keyboards and mice for
all new PC purchases.
