USB Mouse driver

I uninstalled & reinstalled my USB ports/hub to try to solve a stop
error now WinXP won't run my usb mouse. I plug it in & the Found New
Hardware Wizard pops up, but then it says it can't find the driver.
I've tried different mice with the same result. Right now I'm using my
laptop mouse plugged into a serial port. Everything else that's usb
works fine. I've tried looking on Microsoft's site, but I guess I'm
using the wrong search terms or something. It's a Logitech corded
optical mouse & their site says to use Windows native driver.

Does it prompt you for locations to look? As I recall, most of these
drivers are stored in the c:\windows\inf folder.

It does ask if there is a disk or installation file, I think. If it's
in the folder you mentioned, shouldn't the Hardware Wizard find it?? We
think the mouse itself may be bad but that wouldn't explain not
installing the laptop mouse. I'll give it a try telling it to look in
that folder. There is a folder in windows/system23 called drivers, but
I don't see anything that looks like a mouse driver.

Well yeah, one would (normally) assume so. It was a long shot.

We think the mouse itself may be bad but that wouldn't explain not

I have the "mouclass.sys" file & an INF folder in Windows , it's a
hidden folder. I think the mouse itself may have gone bad, it won't
even work with an adaptor in the serial port like the laptop mouse
does. Hubby is going to pick up a new mouse & we'll see how that goes,
maybe it will come with a driver. My copy of XP says it's an older
version than the one on the PC, we had the PC upgraded 6 months ago, so
I can't use anything that's on it. The computer guy here in town is
closed today but if the new mouse doesn't help hubby will have t talk to
him tomorrow. We need a copy of the XP version he put on the PC plus
all the drivers, which he didn't give us when he upgraded the PC.
