Hi

For a long time now I've had problems whereby all of a sudden a load of
services terminate, taking out system restore, windows audio, automatic
updates, telephony, windows firewall and internet connection sharing to
name a few of the more significant ones. I have over the weeks traced
this phenomenon to USB activity. If for example I plug in in a pendrive
after a few minutes bang goes all the afore mentioned services. and the
network connection gets screwed up. I have a Compaq Presario 2100 note
book with 1GB Ram.

Any ideas anyone?

See if Compaq has a FlashBIOS update for your machine. That would be where
I'd start.

Yeah good idea but I tried it ... I'm on the latest bios release at the
moment and problem still persists!

Have you checked that pen drive for any malicious files???

A USB thumb drive can be a significant security threat.

Could the USB port(s) and the network adapter both use the same IRQs????

Is the network connection(s) not USB????

Hi
Thanks for your comments. Well the answer to that would have to be yes
as the newtwork adapter is a wireless USB device. However I have tested
whether this is the problem by trying a network connection via the RJ45
connection (direct to cable modem)and I had exactly the same problem!!!
The issue appears to a conflict between the services themselves but
somehow USB related.

Any further ideas anyone?
