USB Keyboard not functional at Windows login screen

I have a Logitech® Cordless Desktop® S 510 Media Remote. It is a wireless USB
keyboard/mouse/remote combo. I use the "NT" style login. 50% of the time or
more, when I reboot, I won't be able to type in my password, because the
keyboard simply won't work. Using another keyboard, I can then get into
Windows, and in device manager, this keyboard will have a yellow "!" on it,
and claim there is a device conflict or some such rot. I've never had this
problem before. I do not use Logitech's lil junk driver, so this is viewed as
a "HID Keyboard" with a generic driver. I have no idea what to do about this
other than eBay this keyboard with all of it's defection problems.

I would like this fixed somehow, preferrably by means of a software fix. I
do not know what could be causing this problem, but it's extremely
aggrivating. I do NOT want to replace my nice $99 keyboard.

I am runing:
Windows XP Pro
Celeron D 2.66Ghz
512 MB DDR2 Crucial
Intel 945G based Gigabyte mobo

G'Day Wes,

How do I say this.......?
and claim there is a device conflict or some such rot.
....now how would you know that this is 'rot'?
problem before. I do not use Logitech's lil junk driver,
...why ever not? They designed it to make the KB work!
I would like this fixed somehow, preferrably by means of a software fix.
....Install the manufacturers driver!

If there is STILL a problem, post again.

How on earth do you expect us to offer sensible suggestions to you? You
won't believe us:
You dont't believe the Windows conflict notification
You don't believe the manufacturer can write a Driver
You want a software fix for a problem that might not exist....IF you
behave very simply and install the hardware to the manufacturers
spec - including his Driver.

You cannot have 2 keyboards connected at the same time. That could b
the reason for the conflict

Have you had any updates lately or power failures or sudden reboot
for no reason? If so this could have caused a bios change to defaul
settings. The default keyboard setting is for wired keynoard using
Standard keyboard socket/plug. This means that a standard keyboar
can connect on boot but not a usb connected keyboard. The usb must b
enabled on boot for it to wor

Reboot your system and enter the bios and look for the keyboar
connection and change it to USB then save and exit Then check to se
if it works

The other issue is that you may have to change the battery in th
reciever and keyboard to pick up the wireless signal

There is a software fix, but you choose to see it as 'junk'.. you would be
well advised to install the Logitech software.. you might also want to go
into BIOS setup and enable 'USB Keyboard' and 'USB Legacy Devices' such that
your USB keyboard will be acknowledged as the computer starts up..

I did this before, and because of what the drivers did to my system, I could
NEVER log in again. Logitech's proprietary driver initializes AFTER login
(with any USB keyboard). It's designed under the idea that everyone is
autologged in. Due to other things the Logitech junk software did, I later
was forced to reinstall Windows, as it did many unscupulous things that I
could not fix on my own. Logitech is well known for their extreme invasive
software, especially for keyboards. I'm shocked everyone here is so anal I'm
using a standard generic USB device without installing the aburdly large
crazy drivers from Logitech. Windows guys should know this stuff.

For the person who mentioned the BIOS settings, those are all squared away.
The settings are right for USB keyboard/mouse legacy support, and all
keyboards and mice (both USB and PS2) are seen by the BIOS, and all
non-Windows software. Good suggestion, but the basics are all definitely
taken care of.

If anyone has any real suggestions, feel free to lemme know. If there might
be an actual conflict, lay it on me. I am not in such disbelief that I won't
at least look into something suggested. I simply refuse to use Logitech's
drivers, because it's worse than installing AOL. It'd be quicker to throw my
computer up against the wall.
