USB keeps dropping

My Dell laptop with XP pro keeps dropping. On boot-up all USB devices work
fine. After a short time they dissappear. Investigation through the control
panel provides the following message:

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

Uninstalling the devices and re-installing works for s short period and then
the devices dissappear with the same error.

Updating to the latest USB drivers has not solved the problem.

Any ideas or suggestion are greatly appreciated.

I had this problem with a IBM thinkpad I series, using a USB to NIC adapter,
I ended up giving up trying to fix it and went out and brought a PCMCIA
card, I use the adapter alot for work, saves taking the computer apart and
installing a NIC and never had any issues until this notebook.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately my PCMCIA slots are occupied.
