MY son is in Iraq and having problems with his computer. He deleted some
files and now when he connects any device to his USB ports it recognizes
something being connected but the device will not work. Ex: thumb drive
shows in hardware as other with exclamtion saying no drivers found. We sent
him a game controller and he installed software and then connects controller
- it doesn't work. When looking under device manager the USB controllers do
not have yellow exclamation.
He is getting very bored over in Iraq and would like to correct this issue.

Can anyone advise please

System restore.

Repair install (requires XP disk)

under device manager, locate the USB section,
uninstall/remove the USB hub entries, one at a time.
shut down the PC, power off.
wait 3-5 minutes, turn it back on
allow the system to find and install the usb ports.
try them.

And one more thought: Click Start, Run, type SFC /SCANNOW, click OK. If
any files are damaged or missing, they'll be replaced.
