USB Devices not getting Drive letter

When using USB mass storage devices (MP3, Thumb Flash Drives, or Scan Disk
Card reader) XP will not automatically assign a drive letter. Also after I
go into Disk Management in the Manage Window and assign a Drive letter the
drive still will not show up in My Computer.

Only way I can get to it is to right click on it in Disk Management and
click Open. It gives an error even when I click Explore from the right click
menu. This hasn't worked since I re-installed Windows after a Format .

You may need to re-install the motherboard chipset drivers and any
possibile USB filters (VIA.)
