It might help if you could tell us what USB devices are attached to your
computer. One common cause of this is power overload on the USB buss
causing a device to lose contact with the computer for just a second.
However, there are many other possible reasons if we had more to go on.

Hi i think your problem can be solved within device manager

DEVICE MANAGER

To access device manager right click on my computer and then go to
properties. Then navigate to the hardware tab and click on device manager. It
will then populate a list of devices connected to your computer. Click on the
device that is causing you problems and right click on it and then click
uninstall. Once you have uninstalled it, restart your computer. Then it will
rediscover the new device. Use driver for it off the manufacturers website
(when you install the driver).

I hope this helps

Moron, if Windows doesn't recognize the device, then it won't be listed
in Device Manager.

See if it works on another computer, could be that the device in
question, is pushing up daisies.

True, but Device Manager could be a fix anyway. Open DM and scan for new
hardware, this will usually trigger a path to troubleshoot the missing
hardware drivers. Not an absolute fix, but good starting point.
Don't be so hard on Quintin, You might run him off like Linda B. Granted
he does need to lurk more. LOL

Sounds like the OP may have tried that already, though that was not what
Quintin was suggesting.

Something gives me the feeling he'll just come back as something like
"Mr. XP Jr."
