USB device not recognized

This is a copy of a problem sent to the mfg of my mp3 player. Can anyone
here help?

I own a Sansa Fuse (BIO811BKJK-8GB0), it worked fine in my Vista computer.
That computer is out of order and I am in an XP SP2 machine with Windows
Media Player 11. When I plug in the Fuse I get a Widows error message "USB
device not recognized" I did the MTP kit in solution 3 and it did not help.
I am a novice and have no idea what MSC is in solution 4.

Help please. Again, I had no problems in Vista and this is a Windows error
message not the Media Player.

Thanks in advance. Bob Newman

In MSC mode your device will show under your computer's My Computer" as
Removable Drives. This is how I use my Sansa E280 MP3 player. With it set up
to use MSC, all I have to do is plug in my device and the MP3 memory shows
up as a drive in Windows Explorer. I am then able to just drag and drop
files onto it.

This might be worth trying, but does not necessarily explain why you are
getting the USB error. Another thing you could try is to plug the device
into a different USB port.

I see how you can manually transfer music (if the drive is recognized but
can you make different play lists manually? (If so, how?)

My Sansa player does not show up at all in any form (if it makes any
difference, it worked fine with Vista but is having problems with the
computer running XP).

Some of those devices draw a high % of the 500mA maximum draw
on the Root Hub. Without the device installed you can use Device Mgr
to check each Root Hub, Power (TAB) to see what devices are on the
Hub and how much current each draws.
If you have other USB devices ( except Mouse/Keyboard ) you can
disconnect them and then try the Sansa device to see if it is indentified.

You were right. I hooked it directly to the computer and it worked. So
much for "powered" hubs.

That probably also explains why I do not have a problem with my player. I
always connect it via one of the USB ports in the front panel of my PC - not
via a hub.

Glad you got your problem sorted.

I believe that you can create manual play lists using a media player such as
MS Media Player and then just drag and drop the new play list to the Sansa
device. Not tried it myself, but I believe it is possible. Personnaly I just
set my device to shuffle and listen to them all.
