Folks will need more info. Your subject is USB device not recognized,
yet your post mentions a program not working, vice a device.

I had a similar issue, turned out that my motherboard chipset
maker (a SiS chipset) does not support USB 2.0 for XP.

Thus, whenever I attach a USB device XP will not recognize it.

More info will be needed from you though for someone here to
help you. Like can you operate other USB devices?

Not unless, and until, you *QUIT YELLING*. All caps is considered yelling,
is incredibly rude and makes your posts very hard to read. Post back using
standard English and someone might be able to help you.

I would agree that you probably have an issue with your motherboard
not using 2.0 and need to check the manufacturer's specs.

Alfonso, sounds like your chipset on your motherboard does not support
USB 2.0 standard. I've checked with my manufacturer (SiS) and they
have been promising a "fix" for over a year now.

I have learned to live without USB support, but a work around
you could try is buying a PCI USB card (will support 2-4 USB hookups).
This way the PCI card handles the USB not the motherboard.

Sorry dude, but not all boards play nice with XP.

I agree with Mark on that one, I have a ECS P4 motherboard and have the same
problem after installing WINXP_ PRO. The device is an IBM Mobile_HDD for a
laptop drive, the device was working fine untill I migrated to WINXP. Solving
the problem was easy as purchasing a internal PCI card that is suprted by
WINXP. I liked it so much I got 2 now I have 8 ports thst will support all my
USB devices.

Sounds like I may need to do the same thing. I have a Dell Dimension 2350
with Windows XP Home edition. I have Service Pack 2 installed. I get the
"USB device not recognized" message when I insert any USB device while my
Epson Stylus CX 5800F printer is connected. However, when I disconnect the
printer, I have no problems with any other USB device. I had as many as 3
devices hooked up without the printer. All worked normally. Dell support
was no help for me. Do you think an internal PCI card will help me?

You probably have corrupt or wrong printer drivers installed. Get the most
current ones from the Epson site, uninstall the Epson drivers and reinstall
the most current ones...

I have done more research since my last posting and found that my printer is
"power greedy" and that an internal PCI card would work as Mark and Alex
suggested. I will post my results once the new card is obtained and
installed.

I received and installed the new card and the problem is solved. I am using
the PCI card exclusively for the printer. With this setup, I can use the
internal USB ports for my other devices without any problems.
