USB CPU usage 100%

C

Like most people, I have several USB peripherals attatched to my system.
Most of them utilize very little CPU usage, but others such as my
digital camera and my iPod turn the CPU usage to 100% when they are
attatched.

Is there a way I can stop this from happening? This problem is slowing
my system down considerably. TIA

You're likely overloading the available bandwidth of the Root Hub that
serves the USB ports (Sockets). If the devices are USB 2.0 they all
route internally to a single Enhanced Controller/Root Hub. USB 1(.1)
devices have multiple Controllers/Root Hubs and are Socket dependant.
I frequently have to add an additional PCI USB2.0 card for customers
who have lots of USB 2.0 peripherals on their PC. You can check the
Bandwidth on the Root Hub with Device Manager, USB category and
click the "Advanced" (TAB) properties of each Root Hub.
