I was fixing a few things on my sister's computer and noticed that there is
a yellow question mark in the Device Manager under USB controller. She has
no documentation wrt the manufacturer of her USB ports and I have no idea
how to identify them or her motherboard.

Can anyone help?

Visit the support website of the manufacturer of your sister's computer
or motherboard and download the appropriate chipset drivers.

If she has an Intel processor and chipset:

Install the Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/Product_Filter.asp?ProductID=816
