I have a computer with an Intel D845PESV Motherboard. The MotherBoard has
integrated USB 2.0. Nothing that I plug into any of the USB ports is
recognized. The devices show up under "Other Devices" in the Device Manager
with a large yellow question mark and will not work. Any attempt to install
a driver for such a device fails with the Driver Wizard either unable to
find any driver (anywhere) or with a message that a required entry in the
INF file is missing, probably because the INF file is for a version of
Windows later than Windows 95. I have XP Pro service pack 2 and all
updates provided by MS Update service have been installed -- the most recent
being this week. I have tried uninstalling the ISB controllers and ports.
If I do so, windows detects new hardware on start up but cannot install
drivers. I have to use system restore to get back to a point where the USB
ports are installed. A security dongle plugged into them is recognized, and
a LaCie hard drive that will run from either fire wire or usb is recognized.
It is an older device and was installed before service pack 2. It is
normally running on the fire wire port.
Any suggestions as to a cure would be appreciated. Would disableing the USB
ports in BIOS and installing a USB card in a PCI slot likely work?
Thank You
