USB Code 10

I have a USB portable hard drive - it's an old laptop hard disk that I
put in a USB caddy - it worked fine until today - I've tried it on 6
machines - and in device manager I'm getting "Code 10 - This device is
not working properly"

Can anyone help please?

Thanks in advance

I had that problem because the jumpers on the external drive were not set to
master.
Not sure if that is your problem since it was working before.
Have you tried uninstalling the device, rebooting and starting over?

Device Manager Error Codes

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Device failed to start. Click Update Driver to update the drivers for this
device.

On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the
troubleshooting wizard.

I would bet it just died, but here's how to check.

I tested it at home last night - and it's the hard disk that died.

Do you know if these drives are robust enough to be carried around in a
bag each day - or should I just settle for a USB memory stick to carry
my notes and files around (I'm an IT Trainer).

a mermory stick is much easier to carry are.
though i guess it's a personal choose.
