USB Can't Find my Mouse Drivers

I am using XP Home SP2.

When I plug in a USB Optical Mouse or my Zip100 USB Powed Zip Drive or my
laptops USB Floopy Drive, I get the pop-up that says "Found New Hardware -
PS2/USB Browser Combo Mouse" or "USB Zip 100" rather than automatically
loading the driver, up comes the Wizard. If I select the "Install the
softaware Automatically" button, then the wizard fails to find the necessary
driver. If I select "Install from a list or specific location" and point it
at windows/system32/drivers (or any other obvious place) then it still
fails to find a driver.

The other USB device that i have (HP InckJet Printer) work fine.

I have tried rebooting with the mouse and/or the zip drive pluged, but just
go through the same dialogue.

I have searched for the drivers on the Microsoft site and all over goodle,
and on the
vendor's site (Iomega), and found for both the mouse and zip drive. After
nstaltion, i still get the same problem.

Anyhow, this has always worked for me on this machine before i re-did the
system and installed a new hard Drive and CD-Rom. It always worked fine.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Lohan

windows has a store of drivers whih it uses when devices are plugged in as
you describe.
its at C:\Windows\Driver Cache

if it fails to find a driver it starts the dialog which you see.

As the devices you describe are standard it sounds like you have corrupted /
deleted the driver cache.

You could try copying it from another machine
or from a windows cd

if this still fails I think you will have to reinstall windows
