USB cable

Going back to the beginning!

When I plug my mp3 or camera cable into the usb socket it freezes my screen.
To unfreeze the screen I have to pull the socket from the mp3 out first then
from the pc.

I have tried system restore - back to the date I bought the pc, I have
uninstalled and reinstalled usb via device manager, there is no yellow
exclamation marks, I have looked at properties - all ok.
I had Limewire-download-pro.com dowloaded about 2 weeks ago so I'm not sure
if this caused a problem. I have uninstalled it now.
A suggestion was made to do a system recovery but I'm nervous to do it, I'm
not sure how to do it (not a computer whizz!) and afraid I'll lose my BT
Broadband.
Can anyone please help me as it's starting to depress me now!!!
Apart from this my pc seems to work fine, internet etc. Just means I cant
download any music or download my photos, very frustrating!

OK, have you tried what I previously suggested - using different USB ports,
plugging in one unit at a time ?

1) Suggest you try unplugging both, and re-booting.

2) Plug in the USB camera. If it freezes, then its a problem - possibly
corrupted drivers. Un-plug it and re-boot. What make and model is it, do you
have the latest XP specific drivers ? Download, if necessary, them from the
manufacturer's website.

3) Delete any software that came with it and delete all references in the
hardware manager to the camera. Re-boot.

4) You then need to re-install the camera as a USB device. Use the CD
that came with it (or the latest drivers you downloaded from teeh website) -
and follow the on-screen instructions in both cases, but, do NOT plug in the
camera until asked to do so by the installation software. Re-boot if
necessary.

Does it work and is there no freeze up ?

Cheers,
Jerry

Now you can try to plug in the USB mp3 device. Any freeze up ?

Thanks Jerry
I will try your suggestions and let you know how I get on. Am getting
increasingly worried that I am doing a lot of things to my laptop that I
really don't understand, still a novice...
