USB. 2

I have a motherboard which has 8 USB. 2 ports. I recently bought a Mass
strorage device (memory stick) which is USB. 2 when I pluged it in the
computer came up with the message: You have plugged in a HI-speed USB device
into a NON HI-speed usb port and will function at reduced speed.
I know that the USB port is USB 2 And i do HAVE the new windows SP2 with
automatic updates.
WHAT IS WRONG????

You say you know all the motherboard ports are USB 2. The only way
to make sure they're showing themselves to the system as USB 2.0 is by
going into Device Manager, Hardware, and expanding the devices for USB
and see what it says. Usually, USB 2 ports show up under "Enhanced
USB 2.0 Controller" or some such statement.

You might also wish to check the CMOS setup program for the
motherboard BIOS and make sure all the ports are set for USB 2 if such
a setting exists.

There seems to be some grey area as to what constitutes USB 2.0 and
Hi-Speed USB 2.0, which from what I've read at Intel is a superset of
the USB 2.0 specification. Intel states that "Hi-Speed" refers only to
the Hi-Speed specification of USB 2.0. It is therefore concievable in my
mind that basic USB 2.0 doesn't necessarily support the Hi-Speed
specification.
