Until yesterday everything was fine. Now WinXP SP2 see's all my USB2 devices
as USB 1.
The "USB2 Root Hub" is shown as enabled in device manager yet xP tells me
that my hub or ext HD would work better in a USB2 port when it's plugged
into one.
Have reloaded drivers & done a system restore but no difference. I did
upgrade my Alcatel Speed touch program yesterday......could this be the
cause. My motherboard is a ASUS P4S8X.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Andy,
You mention an ext HD. If that is when the problem started it could be form
when you connected youe usb HDD.

XP should support most USB HDD's but I have found some of the drivers only
work at 1.0 not 2.0. If the use of usb HDD is at the same time as the problem
started the get rid of those drives. Hard to do as usb drivers are difficult
to understand. then make sure as with all usb, that you install the drivers
for the usb device b4 you connect it. Cos they know that xp 'pnp' is out of
date on many usb devices and loads their own first if it can.

Had the same myself on usb HDD and drivers was the prob but it affected all
usb too.

Good luck.

It looks like it was a additional USB2 hub that's causing it. Removed it &
everything else is ok....It was ok so I'll assume it's dead I'll try it in
another PC.
XP installs it as a "Generic USB Hub" not sure if that's correct
Thanks
Andy
