USB 2.0 Driver Windows XP Pro SiS7001 USB Chipset

Hello,

Can anyone tell me where I can locate and download the USB 2.0 drivers
for the above chipset? I had Windows XP Home and when I connected USB
devices such as USB Stick it asked for drivers. This happened with
Keyboard and Mouse as well.

I have looked on Windows Update and cannot see anything regarding
USB2.0. No mention of SP2 in System Properties but I am sure it's
installed. Is there any other way to check please?

Thanks
Stephen

As near as I can tell, an Asus P4S533 has a similar chipset. SIS7001
may be part of 645DX/962 chipset. Knowing the chipset makes finding
an equivalent motherboard a lot easier, as I cannot be 100% positive
this is the right one. Use CPUZ, Everest Home Edition (free), Sisoft
Sandra etc, to learn more about your motherboard.

An Aopen AX45-533 Plus might have a similar chipset.
ftp://ftp.aopen.com/pub/driver/mb/sis/usb2.0/usb20_102.exe

Now, looking at the ZIP version, I notice WinXP is missing. Tsk Tsk.
Means the nasty people labelled the driver as WinXP, when nothing
could be further from the truth. (If you have one of the Service
Packs for WinXP, you should have got a USB2 driver out of that.)

The 1.01 version of the driver is bigger. We'll try again. This
would be suitable for an unpatched original WinXP install. And
it does have a WinXP directory in it, so not a dud like the above
one. If this file did not exist, you'd have to install a
Service Pack to get a Microsoft driver.

That's the way I usually check.

What DOES it say, exactly in system properties. As the Windows Update
method won't work for usb2 unless you do have SP2 installed.

Also.... you might not HAVE usb2 ports.

Are there question marks in the device manager, and what does it say in
the device manager under USB?

Sorry for double post.

I have just found out the Motherboard Name. It is ECS 661FX-M7.

Motherboard ID is
11/04/2004-SiS-661-6A714E1AC-00

I went into Device Manager on his PC and Updated a USB Driver after the
SP2 installed to Standard USB Enhanced controller. Does that now mean
he has USB 2.0 installed? He no longer gets any message about USB 1.1
when plugs in USB 2.0 Device.

Thanks for your help

Yes, the word "Enhanced" means you have USB2 in there somewhere.
One USB2 entry can apply to more than one port (the USB2 logic
block is generally shared by more than one port). The lack of
messages means you fixed it :)
