USB 2.0 Host Controller

I'm trying to reinstall pretty much all my software and hardware drivers
after a virus destroyed my system. I'm having trouble with the USB 2.0
drivers. I'm trying to install nVidia 2.0 USB Driver but it stops midway and
tells me that Windows Update SP2 offers support for USB 2.0. But I'm already
updated to SP3. Is there any way to get the 2.0 driver I need for my USB
ports? Thanks.

From SP1 onwards, the driver is part of WinXP. The Microsoft licensing agreement,
caused most hardware manufacturers to remove their WinXP driver, as SP1 was expected
to provide the support. When you see USB drivers available, most of the time
they will be there, to support older OSes. (I can still find some pre-SP1
drivers around, but they're not that easy to find.)

If the USB2 device is deleted in Device Manager, it will be discovered again by
WinXP, and the built-in USB2 driver gets used.

In fact, that is the procedure that is described here.

To check for USB2, they describe what to expect in Device Manager, here.
The descriptive string in Device Manager, will vary a bit depending
on the brand of USB2 chip. But the keyword to watch for, is "Enhanced", as
that helps hint at the USB2 logic block.

You should not need to use the Nvidia driver, at least for USB.
Nvidia sometimes has a jumbo driver, with various chipset
support functions in it, and you should be able to pick
and choose which ones you want out of that. There really
shouldn't be an attempt to install USB2, if the OS is
WinXP and Service Pack is >=1.
