USB 2.0 boot problem

I have a problem booting an XPE configuration using an USB disk.

I would like to create a general configuration in order to boot on several
machines and I created such configuration (I hope so).

Added all the components described in the forum as necessaries or just
suggested.

Then deployed the falies on an hard disk in order to make the FBA.
No problem, everything fully functioning.

Then copied all the content of the hard disk on my USB 2.0 disk after the
ufdprep.
During the start the system goes on for a while then crashes with a
0x0000007b error.
I tried also with another USB key, but everything crashed at the same
manner.

Anybody knows which is wrong?

Thanks
Max

Try going with Standard PC instead of the ACPI components.
I have tryed either ACPI either Standard PC: no problem booting from
hard disk but no boot from USB disk

I see what is going on. You want to run FBA on the flash disk not the hard
drive. There are several past posts on the HDD to flash issue but for CF.
The registry has listed the HDD as the boot drive, and the OS gets lost when
you move the image to a different drive type.

Here is some information on booting XPe from USB:

I tryed to run the pre-fba on the usb disk, but no way to start the

What do you mean no way to start the system? Are you getting a blue screen?
Yes, a blue screen with the same 0x00000007b error

Do you have the USB Boot 2.0 component in the image?

Did you run TAP or TA to get the platform components?

You might be missing a driver -

I thought that the configuration was good: if I run it using an hard
disk all the processes end with no errors; the problems arise when I
copy the post-fba files on an USB disk or I try to run the pre-fba
directly using the USB disk.

I tryed with two different disks, 1GB each, with the same problems.

I would like to build a simple configuration running over more than one
specific hardware in order to use it for maintenance pourposes not
depending by the pc. At worst I would like to create a configuration
"computer dependent" but I it wasn't successfull.

In the first configuration I tryed using the TAP created configuration,
in the second one just inserting some components manually; in both cases
the configuration functions saving the file on the hard disk, but
doesn't function putting them on the USB disk.

I finally solved the problem.

I had to install the Update Rollup1 containing the USB BOOT 2.0 UPDATE
KB931788 that was missing on my configuration.
After this all start functioning.

Thanks to everybody
