Urgent - "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" stop error

Hi. Since this morning, whenever I try to boot up my desktop computer
I've been getting an "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" Stop error. The
technical information of the Stop error is: *** STOP: 0x000000ED
(0x87353030,0xC0000006,0x00000000,0x00000000). The blue screen comes
on after the Windows XP splash has been up for a couple of seconds. I
haven't installed any new hardware or software -- it was fine
yesterday and it's not today. Right now I'm running Ubuntu off a CD
but I need Windows back to run a program.
I read about the error on the Microsoft Knowledge Base (http://
support.microsoft.com/kb/297185), but the second parameter isn't
0xC0000032 (which means it's not a damaged file system), and I don't
know whether or not I have a UDMA hard disk controller or what kind of
connector cable I have but I've had this computer for two and a half
years and haven't had any problems like the before.
I ran a Dell hard drive diagnostic and it said "Fail. Return Code:
7". I haven't the faintest idea what this means, but it might be
related. Out of boredom I ran a memory check off of the Ubuntu CD,
which showed a failure; I have no idea if this is related, and I don't
know how to interpret it, so here's the result:
Tst: 3
Pass: 0
Failing Address: 000001000dc - 1.0MB
Good: efefefef
Bad: fefefeef
Err-Bits: 11111100
Count: 1

Any help would be appreciated. This is an urgent problem, as I need
the computer for my work. Thanks very much for your attention.

follow the steps here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555302

you might also want to
run the following
"commands":

fixboot
fixmbr

then exit and reboot

there is more information herehttp://search.microsoft.com/results.aspx?mkt=en-US&form=MSHOME&setlan...

but generally you can
recover by using the "commands"
above via the recovery console.

Thank you very very very very very very much. I ran the recovery
console and CHKDSK /R, and now it's working like a breeze, or at least
seems to be.
Thanks again.
