URGENT! Power cut resulted in computer refusing to start up! HELP!

Whilst using my computer (OS: Windows XP) we had a power cut in the house and
everything went off. When the power was restored I tried to restart the
computer but when it got to the screen that says ...your computer was not
shut down correctly do you want to start in safe mode... etc. whichever
option I choose the computer fails to restart and simply goes back to the
same screen. What should I do?

Hi

Try 'Last Known Good Configuration' from the same screen. If that doesn't
work you may have to perform a 'Repair' install of XP.

I have tried all of the options available. Is the repair install using the
startup disc for windows?

Hi

Depending on which type of XP CD you have, please have a look at the
following article by Michael Stevens:

"How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install"
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Before you perform a repair install...

boot with your XP cd and enter the repair console

from there, issue the command chkdsk

(no switches after it)

This will check your drive for errors but not write any changes.

If there are tons of errors reported post back for further advice

However if there are only a few errors reported

then issue the command chkdsk /r (or chkdsk /f )

the errors will be fixed and afterwards, hopefully...your machine will boot
up ok...

If not, then go ahead and perform the repair installation
