If I remove and replace xp fax service so that I can fix a "cannot view
faxes in fax console" will I still have the old faxes in my Inbox and
Sent Faxes box?

If you go to your fax properties from the console and click on the archives
tab you'll see where they are saved. Usually here: C:\Documents and
Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\MSFax\ sent items
or Inbox. But you can specify your choice of location.
So you should be alright.

Removing and replacing the XP Fax service probably will NOT FIX the fax view
problem. A number of standard update and repair procedures disabled the Fax
Monitor in the initial release of Windows XP. These problems were fixed in
Service Pack 1. Make sure you apply SP1 or the update in the following
article:
