Hi,
I have XP Pro SP2.
Last night, it hung whilst starting(nothing changed system wise) and it now
does this everytime.
I have started up in safe mode and the same issue occurs. The last driver to
load is agp440.sys.
I have been able to boot from the CD and get into windows automated
recovery. I execute chkdsk /p and it say there are errors. It seems to not
fix them, and there is no other chkdsk option to use.
I suspect the disk has had some sort of block failure and is effecting some
of the windows files need to boot.
Is there a process or way to check the integrity of the core windows files,
and where there is an issue with a file, have a chance of taking a good copy
of the file from the org CD and placing it on the disk (renaming the old one
so as not to resuse the bad block its having and issue with)
Is there any other trick to try. I have so many application installed, that
the though or re installing everything is a scary one. I moved a few months
ago, and I am sure a bunch of my boxs with either the org disk/serial
numbers is now well gone.
HELP!!!!!
Thanks
