URGENT HELP!! Installation Failed.

I tried to setup xp pro with a clean install. and now recieve this error
message.



Error:
Installation failed: D:\I386\asms. Error Message : The parameter is
incorrect

**

Fatal Error:
One of the components that windows need to continue setup could not be
installed

The parameter is incorrect.




How can this be resolved and what went wrong?

If you can, copy the i386 dir to your HD and run setup from there.

I dont know how to copy from a cd to a drive without the use of the os.
(help for future ref, would be appreciated.)
so what I did was I installed a different CD-ROM in replacement of the IBM
CD-RW drive that was there.
So far It has been working find. no errors.

The problem you encountered is common with a damaged disk or a bad copy of
XP. You solved you problem by changing to a different CD reader which
indicates that the CD-Rom was the culprit. Perhaps it is dirty.
