Guest

I have windows 2000 with SP-4 installed.
My computer is affected by virus - I guess. Reason I think
this way my computers keeps restarting on its own every
ten minutes.

I am also unable to check for virus as it restarts
inbetween.

Is there any way I can stop it from automatically
restrtaing as we can do in windows Xp (shutdown -a). This
does not seem to work in wiondows2000.

Please help!!

Hello

Does it restarts when you are connected to the Internet or
always.
Does it shows the message * it was initiated by NT Authority/System*.

If yes, then you should fix the problem rather than doing *shutdown -a*.

In windows 2000, you need "shutdown.exe" installed before you can use it.
The shutdown.exe can be found in the resourse kit. Part of the kit is free
to download from the microsoft web site. Check it out yourself.

Anyway, if it is affected by known virus, they all have a pop-up. Something
like "RPC critical failure. Rebooting".

There are many reasons that will lead to shutdown, other than virus. What
does eventlog say? Anything in the schedule task? Any leftover of an
installation program? Any new PnP hardware, or PnP hardware that is marked
ancient? Do you overclock? Is your CPU fan working ok? Is the motherboard
unexpectedly hot?

Let us know when you find the solution

Regards,
Jeremy
